Welcome to Iznajar Property
What is Iznajar made of? Well apart from Iznajar Property it is made of miles of ancient olive groves, world class fishing, bars filled with hanging jamons, historic white washed streets and rambling country villas - truly magical.
We planned a three week property hunting tour of Andalucia in the spring of 2005 by looking at a road map. One of the places we had on our itinerary was Iznajar. It is the only village/town on a huge lake only an hour from the international airport of Granada and Granada city itself (including the historic World famous attraction of the Alhambra). Iznajar is only 1.5 hours from the ski (yes ski) slopes and 20 minutes from the A92 which gives access to Malaga and the coast (1 hour), Antequera and Seville. Just to the north is the Sierras Subbética national park and the whole area is composed of dramatic mountains covered in ancient olive groves.
Sounds terrific doesn't it. The Spanish do not really do Tourists Boards and as a result we could not find any information on the town itself before we went; what was there to do, where would we stay and would the locals be friendly? Lots, El Olivar and yes!
You turn off the A92 and drive for 15 minutes through hilly olive and almond
groves. We were lucky enough to do this in the Spring when the hills were
covered in small black barked almond trees covered in pure white blossom.
It is impossible to put into words how beautiful this is. We crested a hill top and
there, displayed before us, was the sparkling deep blue lake backed by olive
covered hills in the middle of which was a white town precariously balanced on a
rocky pinnacle. This is Iznajar. We stopped to take a lot of photos - which
we have not included here because we do not want to spoil it for you!
About This Site
This site has been written as a tribute to Iznajar. It is a wonderful place to visit but an even better place to stay for a while. This site should provide a taster of what there is to do in the Iznajar area and should help you plan your trip.
It is possible to buy a small piece of this magical place at a very reasonable price and we have provided some information on how you might go about this. At the moment there is a very rare opportunity to buy modern, lakeside houses and apartments from as little as £76,000. There was nothing like this available when we were looking for property. If you would like to know more follow this link.
I hope you will be inspired enough to visit this fantastic area of Spain's heady Andalucian region. Enjoy!
